My name is Daniela Ginta, and I am a certified nutrition coach and personal trainer. I have a MSc in biochemistry, which allows me to translate science papers into practical advice.
I am mom to two wonderful boys who are growing up too fast, and human companion to our dog Poppy.
How I got here
I loved science long before I knew it was called that (ask me about that time when I designed a cool little experiment to hatch snail eggs – yep, I did). I studied biochemistry during my undergraduate and grad school too, and after I graduated I taught science courses at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Vancouver.
I also like writing and do it professionally too. After my oldest son was born, I started writing freelance about health and the environment, plus columns for various local publications. For a glimpse into my professional writing world, please go here.
A two-year stint as a medical research coordinator, sparked my interest in learning about nutrition and chronic disease prevention. Which then led to wanting to learn more about the other big ‘rock’ that impacts our health, which is exercise. So I got my personal trainer certification too.
Two things:
I do not believe in fads or trends. I strongly believe in a FOOD FIRST approach.
Therefore, the nutrition patterns I recommend are evidence-based. Personally, I eat a plant-predominant diet. Daily movement is non-negotiable.
I do believe that keeping an open mind is ESSENTIAL to doing what I do and doing it well.
It matters that we pay attention to how the body and mind react to food and life in general, but we ought to run that against scientific evidence. Well-designed, non-biased studies are a vital tool in my own toolbox and in the guidance I provide.
My approach to helping YOU: I bring science in to explain the WHY and HOW of nutrition and regular exercise (strength and cardiovascular) for your better health journey.
